And though I don't have the exact concentration of caffeine in coffee or Mountain Dew, I'd be willing to bet money that it is considerably greater than the parts per billion of less toxic pesticide residue that might be found on supermarket produce that gets the dogmatic organic types so bothered.
> LD50 also does not address the level at which a substance >can have a permanent effect on an organism.Agreed. And we know that caffeine, in the small quantities in coffee and soft drinks, is (1) highly addictive for some people, moderately adictive for most, and (2) deleterious to several metabolic functions. I know of no responsible studies that show any such dangers from Roundup.I think your response illustrates what I am trying to show. We readily accept and willingly ingest far more toxic substances than most over the counter pesticides. When that is pointed out, many slough it off in some way or another. But we'll drink a Coke or take an aspirin (which kills hundreds of people every year) withough concern while railing against Sevin or Methoxychlor which are less toxic We'll smear fungicide on our feet and object when a neighbor sprays it on his roses because a minute amount might drift.Obviously there is something functioning here besides concern for toxins.
