Title: Re: [gwl-g] natural slug controls
For clarity, how about citing the exact reference where that LD50 came from, and the amount of caffeine in commonly used substances. such as coffee.
LD50 also does not address the level at which a substance can have a permanent effect on an organism.  A substance that is relatively toxic may also be quickly metabolized and excreted, while another substance with relatively low toxicity may be stored in the body and it, or at least it's effects, can accumulate with repeated exposure.

Here we have another example of how a deadly poison can be accepted
blithely by organic gardeners who reject far less toxic chemicals.
Caffeine has an LD50 of 192, which makes it 225 times more toxic than
Roundup. Yet we drink it by the gallon -- at least I do -- and even put
it in soft drinks and feed it to our children.
