Title: Re: [gwl-g] natural slug controls
He says the material needs to be at least  2 x 2 feet to be effective.  Larger is better.  Two kinds of cover work. Metal or black plastic in morning or evening, boards in midday.  They like the metal or plastic when it's cool to allow them to get more warmth, which helps their metabolism.  When it's hot, the boards shelter them and keep them at a moderate temperature.
The cover shouldn't fit tight to the ground, though it doesn't need much space under it for them to get in.

How big does your son think a cover piece needs to be to work?  I am
wondering if large containers of plants were raised somehow so that
there was a two inch cave underneath, maybe it might work.  Neat idea.
