Ah, I see now.
I've re-created my test program using dblib, but again I can't see how to specify a named instance using this library. And I can't even see how to specify a freetds.conf file using this library. Finding these plentiful examples on the net isn't as easy as you suggest, and grepping through the unittests isn't the easiest way to learn how to use the library.
thanks,
/ Brett

Ack. Don't use libtds directly, it is a support layer for the higher
level interfaces, and changes from release to release. Please use
either dblib, ctlib, or ODBC. dblib is easiest from a setup &coding
perspective. You can look at the unittest programs for examples or
look on the net, they are plentiful.
Jim et al., let's put a big ass warning in tsql.c not to use libtds, eh?

documentation II'm just wondering how to get this to work, since it doesn't
seem to be
fully implemented. I was expecting there to be a
tds_set_instance() call,
but that doesn't exist yet. And setting the instance name in
freetds.conf
doesn't seem to work, from tsql, probably for that reason.
Does this mean
(for now) you have to manually set it in the *TDSCONNECTION ?
Would I be better off writing the code to implement
tds_set_instance() and
submitting it, or am I on the wrong track.
Current CVS support named instance (TODOs involve only
tested even on cluster environment). Use "instance" option on(freetds.conf-less
freetds.conf and Server=host\instance syntax for ODBC
and dsn-less).
Since posting, I found that the freetds.conf was working, but this
server=host\instance sounds much better.
Can I then guess that using
tds_set_server(login, "servername\instance");
will work ?
if so, perfect
No, do not confuse ODBC with other stuff. This is implemented in ODBC
for compatibility with MS specifications. libTDS do not handle this
syntax. Why would you like this syntax? Which library are you using?
Ok, well then I am confused, and don't even know what library i'm using.
I'm simply duplicating code from the tsql.c file, and linking with -ltds.
Is this what you mean or not? I just need a way to specify a named
instance, without using the freetds.conf file.
