Thanks for explaining that. That does sound promising. I met the coordinator of Wikimedia Australia recently, and I’m sure he’d be interested in pursuing this.
Can we kick this till after Christmas, and then come back to it? I don’t want to commit just yet, but it might dovetail with some other cultural sector work currently moving forward.
Do others on the list have connections with Wikimedia and/or be interested in working on Leigh’s suggestion in 2013? Matt McGregor

On Behalf Of Leigh Blackall Thanks for coming back to us on this thread Matt. I referred to the road map but couldn't see reference to Wikipedia et al. I'm on a mobile so might of missed it.
What I meant was a project space in Wikipedia. it's a space for Wikipedia editors to coordinate their work that is related to NZ Creative Commons. For example, negotiating and facilitating massive release of a library's out-of-copyright photographic collection
into Wikimedia Commons, the repository that feeds media into Wikipedia and the other wikiprojects, and then making sure they are added to the relevant Wikipedia articles.
Such a release took place two years ago with the State Library of Queensland, facilitated by Wikimedia Australia. I don't think New Zealand has a Wikimedia Foundation charter but the Australian charter reaches out.
First step would be to host or attend a Wikipedia Meetup in NZ, to see what's happening, and what might happen.. Wikimedia Australia would likely consider a proposal to support such an event, and I'd happily prepare such a proposal, if you thought thus was
something CCNZ could take on. On Dec 10, 2012 7:26 AM, "Matt McGregor" <Matt.McGregor AT royalsociety.org.nz> wrote: Hi all, |
