Is that an IDE drive?

No, an ISA controller card should not be a problem
(as long as your drive C: is on an IDE drive).

The first line in your photo says:
-------------------------
hdd: IRQ probe failed (0)
-------------------------
hdd is the secondary slave IDE drive. The failure
of the probe indicates that you have no secondary
slave IDE drive. The question is: do you have a
primary master (hda) IDE drive?

It appears that the ST238 is an old MFM drive.
They were used on XT computers (in the 1980s).
Are you really using a drive that old?

You need a special kernel to access such an old
drive. Slackware 7.1 has an XT kernel that is
designed to handle those drives. It is a bzimage
and you will find it in the /kernels/xt.i directory
of a Slackware 7.1 mirror.

If you edit boot.bat (in C:\BASLIN) to point to that
bzimage (instead of zimage), it might boot the DOS
version of BL3.

A better solution would be to replace your XT drive
with an old IDE drive. You should be able to get
a 1990s IDE drive (bigger, faster and more reliable
than your XT drive) for a couple of dollars.

Cheers,
Steven
