Hi Steve
Once again thanks.
hdc is a 512 MB microdrive, which I'm trying to access through a PCMCIA
adaptor (on a Toshiba Libretto 100CT, with 32 MB RAM)
The figures that appear in my last posting are correct.. viz.
Disk /dev/hdc: 538 MB, 538804224 bytes
32 heads, 63 sectors/track, 522 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2016 * 512 = 1032192 bytes
In your previous response, you asked if the vfat module was installed. I
hadn't/haven't installed it so I guess that this module doesn't come with
the BL3-50 distro and that I should download it from Slackware 4.0 (IE,
http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware-4.0/modules/2.2.6/fs/)
and install it using the pkg command. After that I presume that you install
the vfat module into the kernel manually by using the command below?
insmod vfat.o
I will also back-up all the data on the microdrive and re-format it as you
suggest in your posting.
A couple of other points:
*I've managed to access the microdrive on the Libretto under FreeDOS using a
DOS enabler.
*I also tried the access the card through three live CDs (this time running
on a different laptop, an IBM ThinkPad 600e) -- Damn Small Linux or DSL
(kernel 2.4), Puppy Linux (kernel 2.6) and Knoppix (kernel 2.6). Using DSL
there were no error messages and I could access the microdrive and the files
it contains immediately. However, both Puppy and Knoppix generated and error
message 'hdc : lost interrupt'. It's the first time I've seen this. What
does it mean?
In any event I'm most keen on Basiclinux, which is a great distro and
absolutely perfect for my highly portable Libretto! I just need to be able
to access the microdrive.
All the best
Simon
