Abiword apparently renames RTFs to DOCs, and Word will open them.

If you tell it to export WORD it exports rtf, I think.

Export? Do you mean "Save As"?
Probably.

Anyway, why would you want to write Word files?
Aren't they always bigger than RTFs?

I was curious what the output as WORD would look like. It looked just like the rtf output.

I don't write WORD so can't compare file sizes.

Both formats are quite bloated and I am starting to understand where the bloat comes from. All the defaults are unnecessarily specified. I sent someone a large translation (40K) in Wordperfect for DOS, and they assumed most of the file was lost in transmission because it was not as large as expected.

There is a vi in the busybox I compiled and I have vde under dosemu.
Could I type Ctrl-B to get a '{/b ' for instance?

You could get a {/b in e3pi if you wanted.
Just put the keybinding in .Xdefaults.

Can I only bind single keys, such as the F keys, or can I bind key combinations of Ctrl or Alt or Shift with F keys or letters? The latter would let me reuse familiar WP keystrokes. But WP uses F keys as toggles sometimes (bold and underline).
