thank you for this advice. I read the man for dmesg, syslogd and
klogd. Probably klogd makes it possible to write a script for
automatic mounting. I wonder whether scripts of this kind have not
been written by others some 10 years ago? Is there a location for
this stuff on the web?

This is what I was looking for. Now it is quiet on the screen. And if
something goes wrong I can use my usbdetect sript that gives me the
information I need.

BTW: I have successfully tested Sindi's la kernel and RAM disk with
a Samsung digital camera. It works perfectly, in the same way as most
of the memory sticks (only one of them seems to be incompatible).

In DOS two of the sticks cannot be loaded with the common drivers.
And only _one_ USB device can be loaded at the same time, that
means in each boot session.
