He!
I would like a CLI editor that doe real word wrap, I tried several no
and Jed I like very much but it does not really word wrap it pots in
an line break at some point and than when you go back and change
around in your text you have written (which I do a lot) the line
breaking gets corrupted. I had on editor earlier (with debian) that
did real word wrap in CLI, That was "ae" (Anthernys editor) I think.
Has someone installed that editor on BL3, or does someone have an
other solution?
David Moberg compiled dosemu which works in BL2 but not in BL3.
I got an older libc5 version of dosemu working in BL1 (similar to BL3) by first installing bash. I posted information on how to do it maybe a year ago.
There was also a list discussion of DOS editors and wordprocessors.
I am now using VDE, freeware (no spell checker, that was shareware only), which word wraps. So do several others which I tried but did not like as well - pedit, breeze, and I forget what else.
VDE works without the switch -V for VGA mode of dosemu (which most of the other DOS editors need to display properly, as do graphical programs such as Pictivew viewer and our little DOS CAD program), on my TTL monitor with an MGA card (or in VGA, of course). It has lots of nice features, among them the ability to produce files in Wordperfect (4 or 5/6) and WORD and WORDSTAR format, so you can send other people files with formatting in them. I don't know how to print with formatting in linux, just plain text, or pbm (netpbm) or pdf (ghostscript).
Abiword is a lot larger but works in BL3 out of the box with Xvesa (or in BL2 with regular X, or even with Xvesa if you add rgb.txt with added Black line).
For just plain linux editors without dosemu:
PICO can be made to wordwrap if you install a larger version than Steven provided (which is actually Nano, with some features not working).
JOE (comes with Slackware) will wordwrap and Ctrl-K, J reformats it so you don't need to do it manually. (In Pico Ctrl-J does this, but in Joe it deletes to end of line).
I don't know Jed but look for a way to reformat after editing.
