in.telnetd worked fine for me. Why are you discouraging its use?

Security, security, security. Running a server on an OS like BL is
begging for an attack.

Is there a preferable way to share an internet connection?

Get updated software and make sure to lock everything down to the
bare minimum need to securely connect.

David

I run my server on BasicLinux and I find it to be just fine. Mind you, I'm behind a router, but quite frankly it does not bother me that it is such an old version of Linux. I just set all the other machines in my network to not trust it and I'm fine. BasicLinux makes a great server as long as it is well firewalled, in my opinion.

Thanks,

Stephen Clement
