Xvesa only works in 4 colors on my Compaq 486 laptop so I cannot use links2 as compiled by Steven under X (where it needs more colors).

I set it up to use seejpeg (from SW3 or 4) as viewer, with the required libraries including libvga.so.1 (pointing to libvga.so.1.3.1 from SW4.0).
And in Setup changed the viewer from XLI to seejpeg, to get 256 colors (the max for SVGALIB, tho the card will do 64K on my monitor).

I then installed the SW81 glibc (SW71 would have worked but I happened to have glibc 2.2.5 solibs on another computer and this laptop has no CD-ROM drive) and links2 from delilinux. It needed also (from SW71) libtiff, libjpeg and libpng so files (ldd) and also a later libvga.so.1.4. not 1.3 (from SW71). With these four libraries (and symlinks) I can now use links2 in graphical mode, 256 colors, without X.

I then discovered that seejpeg seg faults and zgv has a floating point exception with this newer libvga. If I put the symlinks back to the libvga from SW40 seejpeg works again. (I did not check zgv).

So we have a choice of graphical links2, or seejpeg/zgv as viewers. I might try the viewers from SW71 instead of those from SW40, or simply view images in DOS (in a lot more colors).

The entire glibcso 2.2.5 (or 2.1.3) package may not be needed to use links2 from Delilinux, but it is only about 1.3MB package. Links2 is huge. The required additional libraries also take up space. But this is the only way I could find to use this computer with a graphical browser in linux. If you have a small hard drive I suggest just using seejpeg as a viewer and not browsing in graphical mode.

This library update and delilinux links2 are needed because XVESA won't work with my video chip in more than 4 colors but can also be used on a computer where it works in 16-colors but links2 needs more than that.
