If it's an image file you mount it as a looped device:

--------------------------------------
mount -o loop baslinux /mnt/loop
--------------------------------------

You uncompress it first, like Steven was saying. When it's uncompressed,
you have a raw disk image you can mount on any unused mount point on your
system. Then, you can chroot into it for editing. Or simply browse the
files with mc or some file manager to delete things. A looped image file
is how standard BL3 works: it mounts the root filesystem image you store
on your DOS partition and boots into it. You've been using this method
all along with BL3 booting from a DOS partition.
