Did you install glibcso.tgz from Slackware 7.1 ?
That will give you glibc 2.1.3. I'm guessing that
Slackware 7.0 has 2.1.2.

If you did install 2.1.3, then that 2.1.2 error must
be coming from your software (is it called newsplex
by any chance?). Perhaps the error will disappear
if you manually link your exisiting glibc 2.1.3
(in /lib) to 2.1.2.
