Teşekkür ederim (thank you), Celal. I can accept almost everything Wright writes here. I agree with his aim that we should not "[see] the appropriation of the text as an act of unwarranted exegetical opportunism", and that "we can understand this text in a more wholistic way that largely vindicates Matthew's usage, without it coming at the cost of compromising the integrity of Isaiah's context". But I do wonder if Matthew's understanding of Isaiah was really as deep as Wright seems to think it was.
