But only in some manuscripts. That is what caused the problem. Karyn was looking at standard scholarly editions which are based on the Leningrad Codex, and that seems to have the dageshless qof - which is probably an error.

The Mechon Mamre text is based on the Aleppo Codex, which is grammatically more regular. In principle the more regular form could occur because a later copyist has (consciously or unconsciously) corrected the pointing to a more regular form. But in this case the Aleppo version is more likely to be original because I think Leningrad is thought to be copied from Aleppo.
