Well, Ken Litwak is evidently an easy person to chock.
His long tirade against everything and everybody not sharing his rather
conventional ideas about biblical studies need no long answer. I do not know
of any credentials of his who demand that I should be serious about his
criticism. He is distorting and derogating a scholarship his does not
understand or possess the credentials to comment on. He throws eggs after
the establishment like a naughty boy but does not show that he has anything
in his cards. He uses a language of a street fighter. In short, it is very
difficult to handle his message. I can only say to one of his many
accusations that the people here in the classical department--I mean the
professional classicists here--did not laugh when I presented my ideas about
the OT and history writing to them a year ago. I suppose that Mr Litwak will
think of these specialists as ignorants as well? because they do not share
his perspective.
Going against the establishment in such bad manners demands that your
credentials are immaculate, that people must take you to be serious, will
want to discuss your ideas even if they disagree. I have had the good luck
to find scholars who do not share my personal views discussing them in a
serious way, but I will not stand up to the fight proposed by Ken Litwak.
here I will stay with my peers.
As Ken Litwak some times ago informed me that he does not read my mail any
longer (so how can he read this?), I will ask some other person on the list
to let him see it.
