Ecological Cultures by Design: The Inner Landscape of Ecosystem Mimicry Dave Jacke with special guests John and Nancy Todd July 15-17, 2016, Omega Institute, Rhinebeck, NY The belief in separation forms the core of our current crises?humans from nature, spirit from matter, mind from body?the false divisions are legion. Cultures of separation shred ecosystems even as they disintegrate our sense of self. Yet the seeds of solutions lie within the problem. Given the timing and nature of the challenges, we must quickly create diverse, multifaceted paths forward. Interconnected ecosystems can teach us how to create ecological human cultures, and through ecosystem mimicry we re-member ourselves as part of nature. But we must do this consciously, by design. All humans design. The ability lives in each of us. It fuels our individual and collective creativity. Conscious ecological design also offers deep integrative power. Profound lessons for both our individual selves and our collective lives lie inherent within the ecological design process. This workshop will elucidate the frameworks for functional, effective and conscious ecological design, and give you experience with those frames and those processes: presentations and design exercises will seed improvements to our design understanding, effectiveness, and efficiency. More importantly, we will connect the inner landscape of ecological design to the big-scale tasks at hand, and we?ll delve into some of the fundamental truths the ecological design process offers about who we are as humans, what is the nature of reality, and how we might live more fully into our present and future selves while doing the practical work the world and the times demand of us. Ecological design visionaries John Todd and Nancy Jack Todd join us Saturday afternoon. Experienced and novice designers alike are welcome. https://www.eomega.org/workshops/ecological-cultures-by-design?source=fweb.jackd.ws#-workshop-description-block ------------- Dave Jacke Dynamics Ecological Design 33 E. Gardener) Date: Thu, 14 Jul 2016 19:15:34 +0000 Subject: Master Gardener training, September 2016 Message-ID: CCE Tompkins is offering Master Gardener volunteer training beginning in September 2016. This training is only offered every two years. Applications are due by August 7 and interviews will be held in mid to late August. The Master Gardener Program is a national program of trained volunteers who work in partnership with their county Cooperative Extension office to expand educational outreach throughout the community by providing home gardeners with research-based information. Master Gardeners assist with gardening projects in their communities, teach classes and workshops, plant and maintain demonstration gardens at CCETC, provide information and soil pH testing at events, and answer gardening questions. Volunteers also participate in specially organized tours, events and social outings. The cost for training is $75 and scholarships are available. More information, an application and training schedule can be downloaded from the CCETC Master Gardener page http://ccetompkins.org/gardening/master-gardeners This year Tompkins County is joining with Tioga and Broome counties to pilot a 'flipped classroom' model for Master Gardener training in New York State that will be more active, hands-on and engaging. Trainees will watch videos on specific gardening topics on their own time, then the trainees will meet monthly for active, hands-on learning sessions at a variety of horticulture sites in Tompkins, Tioga and Broome Counties. Video-viewing sessions will also be organized at CCE for those without access to a computer, and carpooling will be arranged to the monthly group sessions. This month, we will join Olga Tzogas, owner of Smugtown Mushrooms in Rochester and an avid mushroom forager. Olga will share the basics of safe mushroom identification and show us where we can look to find some of the best edible and medicinal mushrooms in the woods. While its been an unseasonably dry summer (not the best for mushrooms), there is still plenty to learn about the forest types and places where we are most likely to find mushrooms such as chanterelles, chicken-of-the-woods, reishi, chaga, and more.
