Wow, I couldn't find anyone else with my problem, either. ;) I never could
find
the reason it would die like that, though I believe there is a newer version
of
the NVIDIA_nforce drivers as well as a GPL'd nvnet driver in the kernel (might
require a patch), but I haven't tried any of those as my LinkSys is working
just fine. ;) Maybe someday I'll go back and try to figure out what was going
on, but I spent so much time trying to fix my DHCP server, my switch, and the
cables (for the longest time it never even occured to me that, after loading
and starting successfully, the network card just wouldn't work, so I tried
fixing everything else), until I tried another card (the LinkSys) on a lark,
and wham! Up and working fine ever since. I have not been very pleased with
these nForce boards (I've only tried the nForce2, but I've heard the first
ones
had problems as well as the 3rd generation). There are quite a few long
threads
about nForce2 on LKML.

The sound card wasn't the best, and since I had my SBLive! from the machine I
upgraded I figured I'd use that.
