Either I'm totally outdated or you're screwed ;-))). See, MBR is actually a piece of /code/, not just zeroes, so doing what you've done will *definitely* render the drive unbootable no matter how many times you try. The phrase "lilo resides in MBR" means lilo puts its boot /code/ in MBR, something you've just deleted. Do I make any sense?
