Hi all,
Just a note: On a clean install of SMGL (20020313, updated to devel
grimoire and devel sorcery), xfree86 fails to compile with the mipmap
error reported earlier (Speedy + Combreloc on a Pentium IV). I will later
be trying with lower optimizations (Combreloc + Pentium IV) and lower
architecture (i686).
Also of note, it is near impossible to upgrade to glibc 2.3.1 on this (gcc
3.2.1 went fine), as it gives me the following errors (rewritten from
memory):
multiple definitions of __ctype_tolower
multiple definitions of __ctype32_tolower
multiple definitions of __ctype_toupper
multiple definitions of __ctype32_toupper
I noticed from this that the old patch for gcc 3.2 did something with
these symbols, but gcc 3.2.1 no longer needs the patch.
I know that I should be using the beta2 ISO, but it would not load on my
brother's machine (the one I'm trying these on), neither would the
2002-10-01 ISO. I received the following error (rewritten from memory)
upon booting into the first curses screen:
hdc: cdrom_read_error: { DriveRead SeekComplete <something>}
hdc: timout
hdc is the DVD-ROM if you didn't guess. ;) It's a Pioneer DVD. I don't
know why, but the (very) old ISO worked fine with the DMA on this machine
(I had a similar problem with my Athlon, where the old ISO worked better
than the new). Perhaps some DMA options are missing from the ISO? I
looked through /lib/modules/2.4.19-xfs/ for possible modules to load that
would affect DMA, but could find none.
