Does the host.def file get regenerated if if I run "cast -c xfree86" because this is what I do and I don't get any of my previously saved settings showing up.

Where it generates the host.def file to include the optimization flags using $CFLAGS. Just a note, the host.def file is only regenerated if you cast -r xfree,
so you have to do this if you changed optimization settings.
