OrganicGardening

Organic gardening is gardening in harmony with nature, without using artificial chemicals such as pesticide?s or herbicide?s. Organic gardeners instead emphasise the importance of "feeding the soil?, not the plant".

PlantAllies? (((not sure how we want to comment on organizing pages collectively, so I'll just post my comment here. what I mean by plant allies relates to approaching plants in a co-creative mindset & learning how to form affinities with particular plants over a lifetime. for instance I feel like I have lifetime partnerships with figs, buartnut, marijuana, prairie mimosa.... I thought it would be interesting to dialogue what creates deeper more thorough relationships with plants. plant guilds, of course, represent a much different strategy)))

We are actually losing unique varieties and, in some cases, even species. One could make the case that heirloom vegetable species are even more important than our wild species for human beings who eat food. It should be important to people. As we've diminished biodiversity, we've attacked this web of interactions of organisms, which provides a stable foundation for all life in the world. Diversity is the strength, and I believe the staff, of life. In the last 20 years, many of the crops that are commonly available have been selected only for stability on the shelf and for appearance. In terms of diversity, it's worth it to broaden why we select and how we choose our food plants. --Alan Kapuler
