Hi Linda, thanks for the warning. The Chinese have a lot of imagination when
it comes to torture. But I think a cut and cooked bamboo shoot can no longer
sprout. Nevertheless, bamboo has a lot of force and has been known to
destroy walls or even buildings. But for a person to be killed by a growing
bamboo you would have to tie up that person on top of the sprouting bamboo.

Many thanks also to Thomas and Liane. What you say confirms my hunch that
bamboo is not toxic. Well, if you don't hear from me again, you know that my
hunch was wrong ;-)
