Dear Lawrence,
Not everyone have rocket junk yards and the largest waste stream in the world
to
pick from, so I do have a great advantage as I tinker with cleaning fire. My
biggest problem is the metal is too thin. In a coastal region it's done in a
year if left outside. I lived in Miami and car rust in a year along the
coast.
As their performance, I haven't used them yet, but by the look of them I'd
like
to see a few design changes.
Regards,
Ray

Thanks very much for your reply, Ray. I follow your activities on FB
with great interest and really enjoy the pix galleries.
I agree about stove made out of recycled barrels and cans; thin metal +
heat + water don't mix and allow longevity of the device. Can you direct
me to proven plans for a small rocket stove that is extremely clean
burning that I can build myself? I have my own junkyard and equipment,
similar to yours so could fabricate something I can use every day. I
need something to cook on and heat water for washing and cooking but it
needs to not put toxic smoke with carbon monoxide in my face. I can just
barely live with a small propane stove
(cast iron, single burner, used out of doors only) that runs off a 20lb.
propane cylinder. If I can build a wood burning rocket stove
that frees me from carbon monoxide pollution I will be in business.
I am paying, year round $100-$350 per month for electricity plus as much
as $40 a month for propane used for cooking. I need to reduce these
expenses while adequately providing for my cooking and hot water needs.
I am resigned to using a superinsulated 45 gallon electric hot water
heater (which I already have, a new one bought from HD)
as a backup but I think I can still significantly reduce my monthly
energy expenses. Now if I can go a few steps further maybe I can gain
some space heat for my house too if that's not asking for too much.
It this point I have no less than five welded steel woodstoves sitting
around unused because I can't deal with smoke and carbon monoxide (prime
example: creosote condensed on the inside of the stove doors burning off
and releasing toxic fumes and tons of CM indoors convinced me to not use
wood stoves any more) they invariably emit indoors if used for house
heat. I have 3 Fishers, 1 Timberline, 1 Virginian.
Any leads to plans and advice from anyone would be much appreciated.

Cheers from a smokeless environment,

Lawrence
