Yes I believe that a rocket stove is a good idea and would be a good mid way solution, especially for wetter times when a paper oven would not. Then combine that with the "Water Straw" so only food cooking would be needed and your even closer to saving lives and what's left of the trees.

It seems that something like a rocket stove might be more appropriate in situations like this. If people are already heating with wood, teaching how to do it more efficiently could be a better way.

Insert the USA's obsession with the SUV, the 5 bedroom house for 2 (in 2
states) and the Jones's complex on meth.

People I know took solar box cookers to Chad and taught villagers to use
them. They came back a year later to follow up, and couldn't find a single
box cooker. No one would tell them what happened to them, until they
noticed
that lots of the people's clothing had shiny bits of mylar sewn into it.
Somewhat self-consciously one of the villagers explained, "We cook with
wood. But look at the nice jewelry we made from the boxes."
These tools need to be culturally appropriate.

One item that has been sent to 3rd world countries for many years has

the cardboard box solar cooker from Kerr-Cole. Simple, cheap and

at water purifiying and cooking foods that remove the need for wood. This
