According to my information the larval stage of the Luna moth "feeds on the foliage of hickories, walnuts and other trees and then drops to the ground to pupate in a rolled leaf" ("The Audubon Society Encyclopedia of Animal Life"). No mention of anything special about the adult mouth parts but I have heard before about the adult stage of certain insects not feeding at all.

Don't they have a proboscis for sipping nectar....or do they just mate and die?

Better check your facts there.....Luna moths, adults, don't have mouths...they don't eat anything.
