Anyone who doesn't have plans to add a flock of poultry to their lives should
consider a simpler plan. The slugs tend to live on heavy, poorly drained
soils that stay wet throughout the growing season.
is this a good situation for your garden? If you can live without the damp
areas, consider buying some sand and working it into your soil this winter.
That
will lighten your clay, to the benefit of many plants.
Also dig some drainage ditches to assist the extra water on its way away from
the garden. Line these ditches with more sand or pea gravel. This should
alleviate the slugs. It might even improve your veggies.
Just a thought,
M. Elvin
