You dont have to have your own Chickens for slug control, you can borrow them. Find a local Permie and have their chickens over for lunch...herd them to where you need them and everyone wins!!!

That's my largest fear with regard to poultry...getting them to eat
the right things. (Next largest: who feeds them when I go on a week
vacation?) But chickens and ducks are in the longer term plans.

Get a huge feeder, or lots of them. It could take a couple of weeks to empty it.

We are making efforts to improve that over time. I expect that in
three to five years we'll have enough animal diversity to keep slugs
from being a problem. But I want to eat potatoes until then :)

Your slug problem will kick into high gear around June. Just set out a few bird feeders
in May. Sure, the birds like the stuff in the feeders, but they'll like slugs even more!

Maybe you should consider getting four or five chickens for now.
