Hello everyone, it might be of interest, regarding the relative merits of therapies, to consider that when therapies were actually compared for efficacy they were all found to be somewhere around the 65-70% effective. A not unimpressive result, unfortunately, the spontaneous remission rate is also within the same range.

Clearly, what we bring to any therapy will have an influence on the efficacy of that approach. Given the group dynamics on a pc course, and the feeling made palpable by the enthusiasm of all teachers and most participants that all are engaged in an attempt to improve the world, it is not surprising that these courses often have a profound effect on participants - and not just the students as the teachers are seeing their life choice validated by reflected enthusiasm.

But such group-induced effects are also state-dependent, ie they require the group situation to be re-entered/re-enjoyed. It seems to me that for pc to become truly effective it should move from isolated course events to integration with communities (Robert's work in OKC for example and Robyn's newly certified course that is part of the normal education system and not some alternative lifestyle choice). PC, like anything, not only needs to meet people in their ordinary lives, but it has to remain there. It also, and this refers back to some threads here this summer, needs to prove its efficacy by the integrity of example.

FYI...there is very simple and highly effective method for changing those 'addictions' that is way beyond cognitive or behavior therapy.  IMO modern psychotherapy is very far behind what other non-traditional therapists and outside therapies are accomplishing.  The most accessible one that I know of is The Sedona Method.  They have a great web site and give you a sample for free.  It was developed by a physicist, for whatever that is worth. Creates real and lasting change.  Well worth checking out.
