Well Larry I'll tell you what I know, which isn't much. You should be able to get 110v or 220v. The 4th wire is a second neutral line which allows the system to send excess current back to the main lines without using the ground wire.

Thanks, Mark. If you use a 4 wire system for 110vac, would you need a 5 wire system for 220vac?
