Deb,  The berries are a bit of an acquired taste, as they have a bitter/sour skin (hard to really describe).  I like them and they are very healthy, being very high in lycopene.  Perhaps others on the list can suggest ways of using them in quantities.  Here they are a nibble food.  I did hear two years ago from someone that wanted to try making wine from them.  If they are invasive here, it is a slow invasion.

Also heard that the young shoots are edible and leaves can be used for tea ( not sure and don't remember the source).  Also heard that the seeds can be toasted and the fruit dried, but haven't tried any of those either.

John

Autumn olive is an invasive species here on our farm.  I did not realize the berries were edible!  We use the goats to help eradicate it (really, if it wasn't mowed or chewed down, it would take over the whole farm).  Ours were loaded with berries this year.  Next year I will know to harvest them, before the birds get to the berries and spread them!
