I don’t mow, I use my hand clippers and individually cut out all stems (down to about 2 inches).  I also mulched heavily 4+ inches with wood chips 3 years ago and top off with another 1 or so inches each year.  I’ve only got about 30 square feet of raspberries (but I treat my blackberries and currants the same way, without the harsh pruning).

I haven’t disturbed the soil in that area for almost 10 years and I get almost no weeds (other than raspberry plants that need to be given away).  I have mostly Heritage with maybe one other variety in there, though I didn’t keep them separated and don’t know if the other variety ever did anything (it was 5 Heritage and 1 whose name started with an L).

I had Fall Gold in with my pawpaws, but they’ve gotten pretty shaded out in the past 2 years.  I’ve got to see if anymore come up this next year and move them (though I am running out of space quickly…lol)

I planted Wyeberries 2 years ago (along with thornless boisenberries) but they aren’t in the greatest place (space issue again) and I don’t recall getting berries off of the Wyeberry (the Boisenberry is not really distinct enough from the blackberry flavorwise imho, though maybe if it got more sun, who knows…. Alan,

I strongly agree with you on the mowing issue.  I have found that if I mow my everbearing raspberries, then I have to really fight the weeds the next season in order to maintain the patch and get a reasonable harvest. Almost lost my Fall golds one year doing that.  I don't mow raspberries anymore.

John

I liked fluffy's recs.  Home growers don't use herbicides, generally, and aren't likely to diligently water, which, as was said, makes all the difference.  The difference being that for many Heritage is still a great raspberry because they tend to neglect their gardens during periods of drought and don't diligently stay on top of weeds.  Wow, this is beginning to sound like an autobiography.  In fact, Heritage is the only raspberry remaining on my property after trying all the mentioned varieties here.  To me raspberries just aren't worth all that much work when you're growing a wide range of fruit.

Anyway, Heritage is the toughest most durable raspberry I've ever grown, by far.  Here in the northeast the birds aren't very interested in raspberries by Sept., except wild turkeys that harvest low-lyers, so the harvest is mostly yours and the yellow jackets.

Fluffy mentioned growing primocanes only, for fall berries which I assume means he mows them after fall but I have found that my stands are much more durable if I don't do this.  If I mow the weeds will take over and the canes become weak.  The meager summer harvest I get is a foragers treat, but not much use for preserves.
