Hi Alan,
The late Tom Vorbeck (on the Website) recommends
Malathion, as it is easier on mite predators than Sevin (He used to
recommend Imidan, but it's no longer approved for use in residential
areas.) Everyone says if you use something like Sevin or a pyrethroid
season long, you get mite explosions. Last summer I sprayed my green beans
too many times with a pyrethroid and did develop a mite problem ( I've
tried not spraying before and you get the most bug damaged scarred things
you've ever seen. They're OK to eat, as long as you keep your eyes
closed.)
But perhaps apples are a little tougher. Have
you ever seen mite's that have caused problems on any of the small orchards
you manage?
