I've heard that in Morden, Manitoba there was a fellow who trained a peach
tree so its branches were close to the ground, so that he could cover the
entire tree with raked leaves for winter protection; and that he would share
his peach crop with folks at the Morden Experiment Station.

And I've read quite a while ago that in Siberia or in that general part of
the world someone was growing apple trees in a similar fashion. Not sure if
they covered the trees too or if they just let Mother Nature cover them with
snow.

Does anyone have any further information about growing fruit trees close to
the ground, to help with winter protection?
