A similar thing is done to fig trees (and
roses) for people in zones too cold for them to survive the winter on their
own. The trees (or roses) have their roots severed on one side so that the
plant can be laid into a trench and be buried for the winter. This is
generally done just after the onset of dormancy (or before the really cold
weather hits). I’ve done neither, though I do wrap
my outdoor fig very well just after Thanksgiving each year and unwrap before
Mother’s day. Scott Hills zone 6b Michigan From: nafex-bounces@lists.ibiblio.org

I've heard that in Jerry- The trees in Varieties that ripen early and have high winter chill requirements ie 1000+ hr are worth trying. Peaches that can tolerate -25C or
better seem to work the best. There were also some peach seedlings at very good. Unfortunately they don't exist anymore. I believe there were
also some peach seedlings at Morden around the same time. Hope this helps. Kim Maser Canadian Sources Consultant Instant message from any web browser! Try the new Yahoo! Canada Messenger for the Web BETA |
