- Subject: [NAFEX] black walnuts and pawpaws

In October I planted two seedling pawpaws in a sheltered but sunny location down near the creek. There are many young black walnut trees in the area. The two pawpaws are in a clearing, but we did cut down a couple of small black walnuts to make room for them.
Will they be OK in the vicinity of the walnuts? I'm wondering whether I should plant a grafted pawpaw near them in the spring. I wouldn't want to lose my investment in the grafted tree if the walnuts are going to make it impossible for the trees to thrive.
thanks,
Diane Porter
