had to be cooked, for it contains cyanohydrogen=poisonous mater.to eat it raw, you may only one nut daily or some bakers are ading it for better taste to cakes.cyanohydrogen is destroyed by heat or cooking. Many plants have it like taro, cyanophyta in spoiled water, many nuts and seeds.

Lon you're better than google.  That sounds right.  Hard to picture 300 nuts on these bushes, they're tiny.

Sounds like Prunus tenella.  Tom Plocher in Hugo, MN said he had some bushes of that species that produced 300 nuts per bush after -40 F.  The species is sold as an ornamental by several nurseries.  They are bitter, so the nuts have to be cooked to be safely edible.

These were from Bear Creek, labelled hardy dwarf almonds.  I seem to
remember them being described as ornamental which is why I'm
surprised to see nuts setting on them.  They're at least 7-8 years
old & tho they've flowered before they have never set nuts before.
(& there has been a lot of die-back over the years tho this year they
all look vigorous & leafed out.)  Odd.
