'T' budding works well if both the stock and scion are growing well - if the stock or scion has set terminal bud,  you may find the bark will not 'slip' (the bark will not separate from the wood at the cambium layer) - if so,  you can still propagate,  but will have more success with a 'chip' bud -

Hi all. Going camping in WV Labor day weekend which will include my first bud grafting attempt. I am armed with rootstocks in pots which I got in the spring (they have grown nicely and seemingly stable), knife, parafilm and rubbers. I have read endless articles etc. on bud grafting (T grafting).

 

If there are any last minute hints/tips, please share!!!!
