Hello,
What is better for drying fruit; higher temp, shorter time, or lower temp, longer time?
If you were to take the inconvienence of time, out of the equation, is there a better approach?
Most all things I find do better better lower and longer, when it comes to cooking. Never dried fruit though.
Later,
Tom

Thanks for responding. I should have been more detailed in what I was
looking for. I've already got a cheapie I bought at a garage sale that is
just a heating element and some racks. I'm looking for something with a fan
and temperature control. I know there are a number of models out there and
was hoping to see if there were one or two that lots of people recommended.

Hi,
After finding the solar plans, I found these lightbulb plans;

Yes, if you're handy, there are lots of plans out there. Simplest is
just a
stretched food-grade screen; then you want bug protection, so you make a
screen box; then you want to be able to use it when it's not sunny or
breezy..
Yes, there are plans with light bulbs or purchased heating elements.
I've
built some - I find I get more predictable results with a purchased
dehydrator. But a better home-built one would probably work very well.

Hello,
Aren't fruit driers simple things that can be made using a cardboard box,
tape and a couple odds and ends?

I assume a light bulb could also supply the dry heat too.
