Once the spots appear it is too late to spray. The infection period is from when growth first starts until shoots are a couple of inches long. Macintosh type varieties generally are resistant to the disease; Golden Delicious types very susceptible.

I've been trying Soap Shield, a product of Garden's Alive that contains a cooper compound, as an organic control method. They say it's best to spray before the cedar rust appears but I am better at reacting to the orange spots than predicting when the disease will come. Anyone with experience this this product or similar?
