Hi,

The sun's ultra violet rays will break down the bag in a year or two. However, most retailers store the bags outdoors, and the plastic may have a minor amount of UV protection in it.

When the plastic does break down, the bale will crumble.

I have lined planting holes with heavy, untreated plastic to create large rootballs, that are easy to move, and the plastic has lasted a long time.

I also have lined raised beds made from pressure treated lumber, and the plastic underground lasts.

Later,
Tom

Could we simply leave the peat moss bag on the surface of the ground?

How long will the plastic bag survive the sunlight before it deteriorates?

Hi,

Someone mentioned this technique a while back...

Buy a large bale of peat moss. Punch holes in one side (drain holes) on
one flat side. Dig a hole and place the bale in the hole with drain holes
down. Now cut an "X" in the center of the top of the bale. Soak peat
moss. After it is soaked throughout plant a blueberry bush directly into
the peat. Keep peat moss damp.

You have basicly created a bog for the blueberry bush to grow in with the
proper PH.

The bag the peat moss cames in acts as a large planter. If you have to
move it, it can be dug and moved.

Tom
