Trees are a natural climbing structure for grapes, and in some parts of the
country it's common to see trees heavy with muscadines. I had such a tree,
a very tall pine. I was able to harvest about 75 lbs. of grapes a year using
an 8 foot household ladder. This left about 225 lbs. in the higher branches
for the birds. The tree seemed happy; it may have benefited from the
fertilizer the birds left behind.
