MIKE:

A certain percentage of my figs always seem to do that. Hardy Chicago seems to have a much higher percentage of figs which are hard unedible rocks. It you just have one fig tree, bring it indoors & ripen the figs inside. I have about 75 figs in 5 gallon containers & that's not something feasible for me.

I was checking out my Hardy Chicago yesterday and noticed one fruit loot a
little purple. I touched it and it just fell off. I tried to eat it, but
it was just dried out and tasted like nothing. Did I wait too long? Maybe
a frost got it? Perhaps it was just a dud or something. Last year it had
one fig and this year it has three. Maybe next year it will have a lot
more. I sure hope someday they will ripen properly so I can enjoy one.

Oiling the bottom of the figs seems only to be working on the figs that
had already started to turn. The rest that were oiled while green are
shrivelling & don't appear to be ripening.

Hardy Chicago are the only one's ripening with this year's much
shortened season. Conadria get the award for being the largest by a
significant amount. Now if only I could figure out a way to ripen them
up here in the cold cold north.
