Rick,
I checked out The Food Lover's Garden from the library. It mentions
loquats, but it also says the author is not sure if it will fruit in Seattle
(printed in 1970). Is there a later edition of this book where Prof.
Pellegrini talks more about his loquats, or do you have another source? I
would be interested in hearing about someone in Seattle that currently is
having success with loquats.
Thanks,
Mark Lee, Seattle zpone 7B/8A

Mark;

Observing Ugni molinae in the arboretum may not be useful; most of the
arboretum is not in the most favored microclimate for marginally hardy fruit
in Seattle.
The late Prof. Angelo Pellegrini (author of *The Food Lover's Garden*-
highly recommended) was able to get loquats to ripen on a south slope over
the sound in Seattle; this has only occured once since WWII in Portland OR.
