David, Claude:

I have been researching old varieties in the Fort Kent area of northern
Maine and have located what we think at very old varieties that predate
travel links with southern Maine. These varieties almost certainly where
brought from Quebec. Two in particular may be of interest to you, one that
is called Pomme d'Or. The other we call Charette after it's location in
Fort Kent. The Charette tree itself is in excess of 200 years old. Friends
took the Charette apples to Quebec and located older people who remember the
apple from their childhood.

One of my projects is to develop a pomological history of Maine. Because of
the close connection between Maine and eastern Canada, I'm very interested
in your project. Please keep me informed as it progresses. I would be
pleased to assist you in any way I can.
