This is an interesting use of beech trees. What part of Europe did you see
this in? I wonder what kind of beech they used? Any more details on
extracting the oil (is this a commercial process or a hobby activity)?

In Europe I saw many beech trees used as espaliers in living fences and
I thought they were an ingenious method of using a wildlife food source.
They were grafted together by interlacing their branches. As was stated,
the nuts were very small but like other small seeds were gathered as
an oil source.
