Yes the Tempel  (spelled like this) Lipizzans are still here.  I live about three miles from the farm.  My daughters and I have  worked their shows doing different things like usher, ticket sales, etc.  The best gig is leading the brood mares.  They always show off the latest crop of foals in the show.  It is a stitch to watch the babies running about as they more or less stay with the moms , who are led around the arena.

Tempel Farms keep around 80 or so head and the shows run from June 17 to the end of August.  They try to be as faithful as possible to the Spanish Riding School methods.  The head trainer, Jochen Hippenstiel (not sure of that spelling), is very serious about maintaining the Austrian standards in breeding and training.

A group of Tempel Lipizzans appeared in the Inaugural Parade in January, as they did for President Reagan in 1980.

Here you go, a link to the famous white horses!
I had the great pleasure of seeing Herrmanns Lippizaners when they were in  my area years back.  I also had the wonderful pleasure of boarding at a dressage barn and met some very nice people there that were stupendous riders.  While I did not partake in show dressage on any performing level, I had garnered many nice tips and compliments from the people there that I had rode with with our Paso Finos and they were in awe of our little spanish horses and how nicely trained they were.  Back then I was riding heavy trail and got into endurance, competitive riding and was trainng a few trotters for other people at the time.

I am not sure if the Temple Lippizan horses are still in Northern Illinois, but it might be worth a look see for anyone in that area to visit them there.

Herrmanns was a traveling show and a great rare opportunity to see these beautiful stallions preform.  It is always so nice to see well trained horses, especially stallions in number.  I wish I knew more of their secrets to airs above the ground and other "battle" manuvuers!  So many things you can teach the horse from just being on the ground!

Being that I raise gaited spanish horses, I have a great love for all the spanish breeds.

Parelli Natural Horsemanship has been teaching these things for years.???His program is a good one for seasoned as well as new riders and horses.? In level 1 of their training, everything is done from both sides, amazing Karen how many horses don't ever get that type training.? I am almost finished with Level 2 PNH with my horses and I teach my students the same methods - whether they are MSAR or just trail? or show folks.?

Thanks and congrats to you too?Lila.?
?
Pat Parelli is another excellent example of superb horsemanship.? Another notable trainer or should I say equine therapist is Linda Tellington Jones.? Jones speciallizes in the Touch that Teaches.? The best?riders I know have the softest invisible touch that means so much to their horses.? They are the riders?use their reins as if they were threads!? People who ride dressage have a great advantage in their training abilities.? You almost get the impression the riders/trainers THINK it and the horse does it.?? Their cues to the horse are invisible and all it has to do is with balance and bodylanguage.? Horses are masters at reading body language!
?
If anyone ever gets the chance to see the Spanish Lippizaner stallions?preform... this is the epidomy of training!
?
As ever,?ride safe.?

KUDOS to these posts. Parelli was teaching back in the 80's when I was
riding under a Major from Hungary
who taught dressage in princeton. Remember he thought highly of  Parelli.
I was taught that riding is an art and if practiced correctly will  show in
the harmony between horse and rider. This stimulates us all to  strive for
this ideal no mater what type of riding we do.

Karen, how lucky you were to see a live performance. That has been my dream
to someday see that wonderful riding hall in spain!

You were in Princeton NJ in the 80's?  Small world, so was I.  I
badly wanted to join the equestrian team but my major involved an
excessive number of hours in class (labs) and I was a work study
student too.  My preparation for SAR was PU Outdoor Action trips.
