Sounds like your instructor was either jealous or embarrassed by the fact that he/she could not train a horse that well!  Sorry, couldn't resist!

small world...they were in NJ back in the early 80's (I think). My friend knew the Herrmann's...they were staying at a place in Columbus NJ. The stallions were in portable stalls that my gelding would knock down.
My riding instructor at the time told me they were circus and not true dressage. He said the horses were not good enough for the Spanish Riding School. I saw them perform in PA.....Beautiful performance!! Saw them several times...even saw them practice a little...
