The ones that do not go to an ER/doctor’s office are not reported to anyone.  You would have to collect sick days data as well as hospital visits to get a picture of no treat, minor treat and release, and in-patient.  I had an incident where what could have been fatal was reduced to a minor by a helmet but the record will only show a dislocated finger, because that is what I was treated for, not a fractured skull from hitting a concrete well cap.  The helmet took the fractures.

The Harbor View studies also created a program that Troxel had to get groups to buy helmets at a discount. Check with the label inside.  Most manufacturers guarantee for 5 years or the first impact.

It's Harbor View in Seattle.  Harbor View is THE trauma center for Western Washington and many of the most serious cases from the entire North West are transferred there.

Wouldn't it be interesting if there were research done on all horse related accidents and how many were not seen in an emergency room due to protective gear?  I know that personally I have had three accidents where my helmet was compromised and had to be replaced and I did not go to the ER.  On a similar note does anyone know for how long the lining in a helmet is certified?  I last replaced mine about 10 years ago when I hit a tree limb.
